Probiotic Gummy Bites

Tangy fruit juice gummies with a probiotic powder blend for gut health. Simple to make, fun to eat, and no artificial anything.

1 hr 30 min intermediate Yields 36 gummies Keeps 2 weeks refrigerated

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup Tart cherry juice (100% pure, not from concentrate)
  • 1/4 cup Fresh orange juice
  • 3 tbsp Grass-fed gelatin powder (unflavored)
  • 2 tbsp Raw honey
  • 1 capsule Probiotic powder (multi-strain, opened and emptied)
  • 2 tsp Fresh lemon juice

Steps

  1. Pour the tart cherry juice and orange juice into a small saucepan. Sprinkle the gelatin powder evenly over the surface of the cold juice and let it sit undisturbed for 5 minutes to bloom. The gelatin will swell and absorb the liquid.

  2. Place the saucepan over low heat and stir gently until the gelatin is fully dissolved and the liquid is smooth and warm, about 2 to 3 minutes. Keep the heat low β€” boiling will weaken the gelatin’s ability to set.

  3. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool for 3 to 4 minutes until it’s warm but no longer hot (around 110 degrees Fahrenheit or comfortable to touch). Stir in the honey and lemon juice until dissolved.

  4. Once the mixture is below 110 degrees, stir in the probiotic powder gently until evenly distributed. Adding probiotics to liquid that’s too hot will kill the live cultures, so this cooling step is essential.

  5. Pour the mixture into silicone gummy molds using a squeeze bottle or small spouted cup. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour until completely firm. Pop out of molds and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Why It Works

A healthy gut microbiome is foundational to digestion, immune function, and even mood regulation, and supplementing with probiotics is one of the most direct ways to support it. Encasing live probiotic cultures in a gelatin gummy protects them during storage and delivers them alongside gut-supporting glycine from the gelatin itself. Tart cherry juice contributes its own anti-inflammatory anthocyanins and naturally melatonin-boosting compounds, while raw honey acts as a mild prebiotic that feeds beneficial bacteria once they reach the gut.

Tips

  • Temperature is critical. Probiotics are live organisms. If the liquid is above 115 degrees Fahrenheit when you add the probiotic powder, you’ll kill most of the beneficial bacteria. Use a kitchen thermometer if unsure.
  • Probiotic selection. Choose a multi-strain powder capsule with at least 10 billion CFU. Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains are the most studied for gut health benefits.
  • Juice alternatives. Pomegranate juice, grape juice, or mango juice all work well. Avoid pineapple and kiwi juices β€” they contain enzymes that break down gelatin and prevent setting.
  • Fun shapes. Kids love these in bear or star shapes. The probiotic benefit is the same regardless of mold choice, so have fun with it.
