Warm Golden Milk

A soothing turmeric-ginger latte with coconut milk, raw honey, and a crack of black pepper.

10 min beginner Yields 1 mug Keeps Best served fresh

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Coconut milk (Full-fat from a can for richness)
  • 1 tsp Ground turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp Fresh ginger (Grated, or 1/4 tsp ground)
  • 1/2 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch Black pepper (Freshly cracked)
  • 1 tsp Raw honey (Add after heating)

Steps

  1. Pour the coconut milk into a small saucepan and set over medium-low heat. Warm gently β€” do not let it boil.

  2. Add the turmeric, grated ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper to the saucepan. Whisk continuously until the spices are fully dissolved and the milk turns a deep golden color.

  3. Let the mixture simmer on low for 3-4 minutes so the spices bloom and the flavors meld together.

  4. Remove from heat and pour through a fine mesh strainer into your favorite mug to catch any ginger fibers.

  5. Stir in the raw honey once the milk has cooled slightly β€” keeping it below boiling preserves the honey’s beneficial properties.

Why It Works

Turmeric’s active compound is fat-soluble, which is why pairing it with full-fat coconut milk dramatically increases absorption. The pinch of black pepper contains piperine, which further enhances bioavailability. Together, these ingredients create a warming, mineral-rich drink that supports the body’s natural wind-down process at night.

Tips

  • Always add pepper. It may seem odd, but even a tiny pinch makes the turmeric far more effective β€” you won’t taste it.
  • Add honey off the heat. Stirring raw honey into liquid above 110Β°F degrades its delicate enzymes. Let the milk cool for a minute first.
  • Make a paste for speed. Mix turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, and pepper with a splash of coconut oil into a paste. Store in a jar and scoop a teaspoon into warm milk for instant golden milk all week.
